Leah Stanley’s “Caring For A Loved One With Alzheimer’s Or Other Dementia: Everything I Wish I Had Known” is an easy-to-understand guide for new or soon-to-be caregivers.

By Leah Stanley, Texas, USA

One fine morning, my grandparents got in their car and drove away from their house. Four days later they turned up two hours away in a wrecked car on the side of the road—with no clue what had happened in between! Diagnosis: Dementia. Both of them. At the same time.

Stepping in to provide care for them was one of the toughest things I ever experienced. Everything happened all at once, and only being 29 years old myself, I didn’t know the first thing to do for them. Oh, I learned, alright—in the white-hot fire of mistakes and confusion.

Years later, after my grandparents had passed away and the technicalities of being a caregiver were done, I wrote my book, Goodnight, Sweet: A Caregiver’s Long Goodbye, because I wanted to do my best to ensure that no one else would ever be caught off guard as badly as I was. But even before the book was released, my publisher suggested I take it a step further by developing some well-researched educational material to aid people who are new or soon-to-be caregivers.

And so now I’m introducing my new book, Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s or Other Dementia: Everything I Wish I Had Known. In it, readers will find a wealth of material and current information all compiled into an easy-to-understand guide. It’s actually available in two formats: one is “The Quick Reference Guide” which is a bullet point format; it will be very helpful for someone in a situation like mine where they need a lot of info super-quick. The other is “The Unabridged E-book,” a deep-dive covering multiple caregiving areas including legal, medical, financial, family relationships, safety and caregiver self-care.

All three books can be found on Amazon, but while my memoir is available both digitally and in paperback, the new materials are currently available in the digital format only.
