Lori La Bey is a passionate and inspiring keynote speaker and the founder of Alzheimer’s Speaks, a Minnesota-based advocacy group and media outlet making an international impact by providing education and support for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Her own mother struggled with dementia for 30 years.
Oprah named La Bey one of her “Health Heroes” in 2018. Maria Shriver recognized Lori as an “Architect of Change”, while in 2012, Sharecare recognized Alzheimer’s Speaks as the “#1 Influencer Online for Alzheimer’s.” In 2020, the National Institute for Dementia Education gave its Seal of Excellence to Alzheimer’s Speaks, and in 2018, Lori was recognized as a “50 Over 50 Disruptor and Caring Creator” by AARP MN and Pollen Awards.
In 2011, Alzheimer’s Speaks launched the first podcast dedicated to dementia in the world, and it is still one of the top Alzheimer’s and Dementia podcasts. “Dementia Chats™,” a webinar series, was created in 2011 with experts living with dementia. In 2020, she launched Dementia Quick Tips™, a video series she wished had been around when her mother had dementia. In 2020, a 37-year dream came true when Lori partnered with Dave Wiederrich to launch. Dementia Map global resource directory, of which Lori is now the sole owner. In 2023, Lori and Lance Slatton launched the podcast Conscious Caregiving with L&L.
In 2023, Lori turned her keynote into a children’s book Betty the Bald Chicken – Lessons in How to Care. Throughout her journey, Lori continues to care for and support family, friends, her support groups, and audiences dealing with dementia.
La Bey was appointed International Ambassador for the Purple Angel Project, the new global symbol for dementia, in November of 2013. She became a Platinum Sponsor in 2015, helping launch the Hollywood film “His Neighbor Phil,” now called “A Timeless Love,” highlighting a family’s wide range of emotional struggles and the great depths of simple joys while caring for someone with dementia.

She is driven to provide a variety of FREE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES to connect family, friends, professionals, advocates, and those interested in learning how to live a positive and purpose-filled life with dementia. Alzheimer’s Speaks was founded by Lori La Bey in 2009 after her 30-year caregiving journey with her mother inspired her to create better dementia resources and support. Today, the organization provides education, advocacy, and a platform for voices affected by dementia worldwide.
